Hearing Aid Services: Advanced Hearing Test
A hearing test involves a series of smaller tests, the purpose of which is to collect both subjective (experiential) and objective (measurable) data. The quality and quantity of the information collected will prove critical when determining the best possible rehabilitative solution.
Highly subjective hearing test data includes client case history, preferences, and lifestyle. Somewhat subjective data includes the Most Comfortable Level (MCL), the volume of speech that a client finds most comfortable while still offering adequate speech clarity, and the Uncomfortable Level (UCL) or Loudness Discomfort Level (LDL), the volume of speech or tone that a client would not want to tolerate, even for a second, although it does not create pain. These are sometimes measured over multiple frequencies.
Objective hearing test data includes otoscopy (a hearing professional looking in the ear canal), immittance testing (which tests eardrum movement, non-voluntary auditory reflexes, and measures ear canal size), pure-tone thresholds (beeps over multiple frequencies that are heard either through ear inserts, headphones, or a device that creates tones through subtle head vibration), and speech testing (presentation of words to repeat back).
Important client rehabilitative recommendations are based on the collection of all of this data. It is critical that data, by which professional judgements are then made, is accurate, complete, and correctly interpreted. In other words, a professional hearing aid recommendation is only as good as the hearing professional, and their commitment to being thorough in their data collection and in keeping current in their understanding and application of industry best-practices.
For decades, experts have worked with the hearing aid industry to encourage longer, more thorough, more meaningful hearing tests. Sadly, the trend is moving to shorter hearing tests which exclude important research-supported data and processes that have been proven to achieve more effective solutions and higher client satisfaction. To ensure that your hearing test is delivered using industry best practices, use the Independent Hearing Clinics of Canada (IHCC) guidelines provided here to have an informed conversation with your hearing professional.
UBHearing™ is committed to best-practice hearing testing. Many of the tests we perform within our Advanced Hearing Test are not performed by most other hearing clinics as a part of their standard practice. Our thorough testing allows us to recommend the most effective rehabilitative hearing solution or hearing aids for clients - especially addressing the prevalent challenge hearing speech in noisy environments.
Hearing aid manufacturers are constantly releasing new hearing aid features, yet the typical hearing test has remained unchanged for decades. Our Advanced Hearing Test incorporates tests that conclusively determine whether you would benefit from the latest hearing aid features, or whether the excellent, basic technology available is sufficient. Many of our additional tests allow for validation that the rehabilitative goals of hearing aids have been met. UBHearing™ is committed to proving the effectiveness of each and every hearing solution we offer.
We recommend new clients book a Hearing Screening prior to booking an Advanced Hearing Test, in case of excessive wax buildup or underlying pathologies which would prevent a full hearing test from being successfully completed. If a hearing screening shows hearing loss, and all underlying physiological issues have been adequately addressed, an Advanced Hearing Test can be scheduled. To purchase discounted hearing aids from UBHearing™ an Advanced Hearing Test must be performed by one of our specialists.
UBHearing™ is committed to quality, best practices for hearing testing. Research shows this commitment results in a significantly higher degree of client satisfaction and more effective hearing aid solutions. Our commitment to quality, combined with the lowest hearing aid prices in Canada, create terrific value for the Ontario consumer.
For clients in Trenton/Belleville, Quinte Region, and beyond, UBHearing™ is the first choice for hearing care. We are the speech-in-noise experts!
