“I have to be honest with you,” said Rochelle. “I’m already wearing demo hearing aids from another clinic that tested my hearing last week and, honestly, if this is what hearing aids sound like, I’m not interested.” Rochelle had a unique hearing loss, dissimilar to the typical, age-related results that make up 80% of hearing clinic clients. Treating her as though she is “typical” instead of unique would not bear fruit for her or for her clinician. “The clinic I went to last week told me that these are the kind of hearing aids I need and that they cost $5,000.00. But they sound awful. I wouldn’t pay $500.00 for them.” “I’m really sorry to hear that,” Jon, our specialist, replied. “Those are top-of-the-line, premium technology hearing aids you’re wearing. But success with hearing aids depends on a lot of factors - not just hearing aid cost. The most expensive hearing aid in the world can be just an expensive earplug without first ensuring to do thorough testing up front, so we make the right decisions around programming and fitting later. If you’re willing to give us a chance , I’d like to have a try at making you happy, okay?”
“Okay,” Rochelle agreed reluctantly. “I just don’t want to waste your time.” “Thanks for giving us a chance. I feel pretty confident in saying that this won’t be a waste of time for either of us.” An hour later, after all the standard tests and a few custom UBHearing tests were completed, Rochelle agreed to try one of our pairs of demo hearing aids - again, from a highly reputable brand-name manufacturer. “Oh wow!” She commented. “These sound much better already!” “Why don’t you walk over to Tim Horton’s, or go for a walk, and come back in twenty minutes and tell me how it sounds?” Jon suggested. “Do you have time for me to do that?” “We have time.” Rochelle came back fifteen minutes later, beaming. “I could live with these!” She exclaimed. “Well I’ve got a surprise for you,” smiled Jon. “What?” “They’re only $199.00 each. So instead of spending $5,000.00, you’ll only spend $398.00.” “WHAT??” Rochelle’s jaw dropped. “THESE are $199.00 each? How? HOW??? I can’t believe these are only $199.00. They sound so much better than the other ones.” “Well, $199.00 hearing aids won’t work for everyone but, at your age, with mild to moderate mid-frequency hearing loss, they’ll definitely do the job. Someone like you won’t get good value for money out of premium level hearing aids.” Isn’t it a great feeling to give someone a pleasant surprise? Life is so full of unpleasant surprises that it is an absolute TREAT to be a party to so many happy surprises, here at UBHearing. We look forward to being YOUR pleasant surprise! Comments are closed.
