Good News Stories: Sounds of Summer

7/4/2018

“You’ll never believe it!” Clint laughed.  “I thought there was something wrong with my car!”

While trying free hearing aids for a week, Clint had noticed a lot of sounds he hadn’t heard in awhile.  Some of them were more mysterious than others.

“After golf on Tuesday, I asked the guys to go for a quick drive with me in my car, so they could hear the sound my car was making.  I’d never heard anything like it before.  So, a couple of guys piled into the car and we drove around the block and, sure enough, there it was!  The mysterious sound!  Tick!  Tick!  Tick!

Well, my friend Frank starts laughing at me and he tells me it’s my turn signal!  Can you believe it?  My turn signal!  I don’t think I’ve ever heard my turn signal in that car before.  Maybe not in the car before this one either either.  I don’t know when I last heard a turn signal.”

Clint was enjoying rediscovering day-to-day sounds that had been missing from his life for so long.  He had only one regret.

“I wish I’d known about you guys before so many of my golf buddies bought hearing aids.  It’s just frustrating for them that I paid less than half of what they paid and that I'm hearing better than they are.”

“I noticed the turn signal too!” laughed Pam, as she shared some of her own surprises.  “But the best thing, so far, was sitting with my friends on the deck this weekend.  We were just sitting around the fire, about a dozen of us, all spread out across the deck, and I was fine!  I mean, I was able to talk to all of them.  Even the guys way at the other end of the deck - not just the people right beside me.

“After awhile everyone got kinda quiet and then I said, ‘You know what guys?  I can hear everybody.’ and everyone says, ‘I know Pam.  It’s been so great.’”  Pam pauses, a bit choked up.  “I mean, I never realized what I was missing.  I knew my hearing was bad but I didn’t know how bad it was.  Crickets.  Frogs.  Birds.  Friends.  I’m hearing everything.  I feel like a kid in a candy store.”

Nadia and Dwayne were delighted too.  We’d saved the couple a collective $7,200.00, fitting them both with their first pair of hearing aids.

“We were just on our first road trip of the summer and, we chatted away in the car the whole trip!”  Wayne was lit up.

“We could never hear each other in the car before,” Nadia added.  “But there we were, gabbing away and, after awhile, I said, ‘Holy cow, Dwayne!  We’re able to hear each other!’”

“Don’t forget to tell them the other thing!” Dwayne chimed in.

“Oh right!” Nadia recalled.  “I was in my office at work when, suddenly, I could swear I heard the sound of heavy breathing.  I looked over at my colleague and asked her, ‘Do you hear panting?’  She reminded me that our co-worker, across the hallway, had brought her chihuahua to work but I thought, ‘There is no way that huffing and puffing is a chihuahua!’ so I went to investigate.

“Sure enough, someone had propped our door open to get some fresh air.  Tied up on the sidewalk outside there was a big, drooling, heavy-breathing Rottweiler.  It’s like I have a super-power!  Bionic hearing!”

We may harp a lot on the same theme, but we are so happy to be helping more people than ever to hear their best, and for a lot less than other clinics.  We can’t wait to hear your stories too!
