At UBHearing, we receive calls from people in the community who have been told by others that they are "Due for new hearing aids." What does this mean and is it true? Read on to learn more.... Hearing clinics are well aware that, every number of years, you become eligible for partial coverage of hearing aids once again - whether through a provincial or workplace insurer. But, does eligibility for coverage mean you need to get new hearing aids? No, it does not.
Just because you are able to get coverage for hearing aids, that does not mean you need new hearing aids. If your hearing aids are serving you well, we always recommend that you wait. Exciting and often expensive improvements in hearing aid technology regularly offer new, non-audiological benefits - benefits that are not related to your ability to hear well. While the new features may prove to be useful conveniences for some, not all new technology is intended to offer meaningful, noticeable benefit for your specific type and degree of hearing loss. UBHearing carries the latest in hearing aid technology. We independently review the practical, audiological implications of any new developments in hearing aid technology, recommending new hearing aids only when they will contribute to an improvement in hearing and/or speech processing. If lifestyle features are of interest to you, those can always be considered after addressing your hearing, which is your primary reason for visiting. Like any business, UBHearing is in business to make money. However, that has never been our sole objective. We also want to be a place where staff can feel good about helping the community, and we want you to feel good about your purchasing decisions. We will never suggest to you that you need to replace hearing aids simply because you are able to access funding to do so. Other businesses understand this as well, which is why your car dealer doesn't call you when your warranty expires to tell you that you are "due for a new car". We are known for our prices and quality but are, perhaps, the most proud of our integrity and ethics. If you're ever told that you or someone you love is "due" for new hearing aids, evaluate whether your current hearing aids are serving you well and, if not, consider giving UBHearing a call and learn how we sell hearing aids differently.
